Last Nights Party - Stolen Girlfriends Club

Stolen Girlfriends Club set the blogs buzzing around the world with their flashmob style fashion show at the New World Victoria Park supermarket.



Marc Moore, design director of Stolen Girlfriends Club, wanted to showcase their Spring 2011 collection ‘Untitled’ in "a total random and public place".

Which brings us to the Last Nights Party hosted by the Britomart Country Club which was a preview of the Winter 2011 collection. With the catwalk decked out with white picket fences at the Britomart Country Club, we weren't sure what to expect.


After some flashing lights and an intro over the speakers demanding "Play some Britney!!!", out came the models wearing spiked collars and leather cropped jackets.
Fur pieces and bold lilac floral printed pants and jackets were also a part of the collection. I really liked the knits in the collection as well.

It was a really fun collection which everyone loved. For some reason Rihanna's S&M came into mind during the show; think it may have been the spiked collars. Props to Marc Moore for getting behind the DJ set and playing Lykke Li's I Follow Rivers, that totally topped off a great night out with a bit of fashion, G&Ts and a whole heap of gorgeous people!

Wednesday 23rd May 2011, it was approaching 9pm and we wanted to make it there before they rip up the runway. Just what was happening? Stolen Girlfriends Club's Winter 2011 preview fashion show! Located at the Britomart Country Club, we were just a few minutes walk away from being dazzled by music, lights and fashion!

The scene greeted us with tall metallic walls protecting the event from public view, but we soon found the entrance which had on a $20 door sale to enter. All proceeds made from the door sale as to be generously donated to the Christchurch Earthquake appeal, which I personally find it to be a Fab-o-tastic idea! Walking in was a site to remember - turning the corner to see the stage decorated with white picket fencing running parallel to the crowd, with a bar in the middle and side of the room facing the stage, there were seating areas, however most chose to stand.

The people in front of us were a crowd of good lookers with smoking hot styles, it was a classy atmosphere, sexy heels, heels and more heels (which did make me wonder and worry for the patch of grass near the stage for a small moment there).

The atmosphere allowed us to catch up with fellow fashion loving friends, mingle among bodies, sway to the music, while drinking our favourite mixed beverages. As time ticked by we found ourselves and a few others quite eager to see the show, it was proving to have built up well with anticipating guests. Excitement arose as we witnessed lights being jiggled with, and the band of photographers setting up their equipment at the end of the stage, it would seem they were making their final preparations before the big reveal. The music changed, among the whispering we adjust our positions to see anything and everything. And then ...BAM, lights come on and the first model appears.

As each model came out one by one, we were revealed beautiful garments of black & white, with splashes (that lead to parties) of purple, deep reds, blues, tans and fur. With their high socks, sexy boots, flowing garments and relaxed style, we were amazed. Each model walked confidently down the runway of picket fences and overhanging tree, with their edgy wardrobe, confidence and air of pride, they threw off the feel of the 'traditional' neighborhood scenery, it seemed that the people of the Stolen Girlfriends Club were cheekily stating that - 'you will see this, you will see us near you and everywhere, and that just can not be avoided'.

In end, I was damn impressed with the show. As the crowd slowly wonder off while most stay to enjoy the music, and eachother's company, I was left unable to help myself thinking about that one particular garment in white.

The Brady/Wagamama Launch Party

Brady launched their debut Winter Collection - Haiku in wonderful style at Wagamama in Auckland on Wednesday 16th of March.
Invited guests were treated to a goodie bag, Sisters Ridge wines, nibbles and a small show which showcased their debut collection.
The Haiku collection featured silk fabrics with some wonderful daring prints and designs.
Theresa Brady, the creative mind behind the label, mentions “Every garment creates rhythm and flow through each movement. The Brady girl is after fashion with a quirky twist that ensures she will always be noticed and never ignored!”
Brady has also just launched their brand new website - http://www.brady.net.nz/. They are also running a competition for a chance to win $1000 worth of Brady wardrobe. Check their website for more information.

Wellington Cup's Fashion in the Field

You know we love sustainability, and this year it was awesome to see the racing industry showing their support for sustainable fashion at the Wellington Cup. Trentham Racing Club revealed a new look Fashion in the Field event this year, with 2011 being the first time they have awarded the ‘Sustainable Fashionista’ category.
Clothing and accessories had to be made from ethically produced and environmentally friendly fibres, recycled fabrics and materials. Be locally designed and made, or be reused garments bought second hand or a customised old garment made in to a new one.
Eloise Evans took out the inaugural top prize, with a 1930’s inspired outfit that won over the judges. Eloise crafted the dress herself and teamed op shop accessories with a hat made from vintage millinery.
The category looks set to return next year, so sustainable fashionistas start saving/sewing/recycling your outfits now!
