If Dmonic Intent and Silence Was wowed you, wait until you see what the second part of the New Generation Show had to offer!
Daniel K - Ombres Chinoises
Auckland based label Daniel K comes with the motto 'to venture new and unknown'
Ombres Chinoises is inspired by 'Play of Shadows' a work by French Artist Christian Boltanski - a work that questions memory, oblivion and identity. The collection embraces the olive and camel colour trends, creating a relaxed but chic look for winter with pieces tailored to form soft feminine silhouettes. An asymmetrical print features on a select few pieces, bringing a point of difference among the garments.
Arielle Mermin - Some Girls
There always seems to be a stand-out among the New Generation collections. Last year, it was Deryn Schmidt's Joy of Life, and this year we were introduced to Arielle Mermin's AW13, Some Girls.
Think of all those movies and TV shows with a 70's setting, think of the coolest party they could come up with, then imagine it being just a little bit cooler - you're almost there! This collection has serious cool factor - a retro feel without being cliche, a styling nod to the 70's without being naff - Arielle Mermin got the vibe just right!
Arielle's Californian roots are definitely evident in the collection, which is described as a playful interpretation of memorable style icons associated with the Rolling Stones, adapted for modern life. There are pieces named after the likes of Bianca Jagger, Jerry Hall (one model was styled so well it could have been a young Jerry herself!) and famed Stones songs such as Amanda Jones and Gimme Shelter.
It might be a collection for winter 2013, but the influence of the Californian summer will certainly be keeping things hot down under!
That's our wrap on the New Generation Show for 2012 - we've only shown you half the looks here, so make sure you check out all 12 from each designer on our Facebook page.
