NEW ZEALAND FASHION WEEK - New Generation Show - Part 1

The New Generation Show at New Zealand Fashion Week sees up and coming designers make their New Zealand Fashion Week debut.

The excitement of seeing a designer send their collection down the runway for the first time at an event of this size is pretty special, although based on the quality of what we saw this year you would never guess that this was the show for the newbies!

Part 1 takes a look at DMonic Intent and Silence Was.

Dmonic Intent - Eight

Eight is a collection inspired by the traditional Maori Poutama (stairway to heaven) pattern, and the number eight - the Poutama symbolising a journey towards self improvement, and the number eight being a symbol for infinity and limitless abilities but that nothing is final.

The collection was full of Dmonic Intent's typical avant garde flair, with the stairway pattern predominant in a number of the pieces. The intricate and detailed construction was a real highlight, with the recurring dark palate interrupted at times with bright pops of red and green, the colours staying true to the art and traditions which inspire the label's designs.

Silence Was - The Hidden

It was the New Zealand Fashion Week debut for Silence Was, with a winter collection that embraces a vibe of simple tunics and smock dresses. The pieces were cleverly constructed from luxurious winter fabrics - Angora wool, velvet, felt, textured cottons - often with several different fabrics incorporated within the once piece.
While the simplicity of the tunics and smocks dominated, some detailed pieces included the Chic Collars Rule! Tunic, with a feature collar and The Force Sherpa Coat to throw on to keep out the cold. For those looking for some sentimental value in the collection, the Where The Wild Thing Are Set may be the piece for you!
