NEW ZEALAND FASHION WEEK - Ruby/Liam

Ruby first appeared at New Zealand Fashion Week in 2010, the same year it was named Metro Magazine's Designer of the Year. With seven self titled boutiques across New Zealand, Ruby is now one of the most exciting New Zealand fashion brands, growing from its streetwear origins to what we see today, adding footwear and jewellery ranges along the way.

Ruby is joined at New Zealand Fashion Week this year by new label Liam, described as possessing the spirit of Ruby with a sophisticated ease.

Liam kicked off the show with A New Power, a range that captured the essence of the brand and is described as clothing for a purpose - to be worn, to make decisions in, to make your own.

A selection of modern essentials,  the collection began with long flowing gowns, and sharp, tailored yet relaxed suits in sassy red and olive green. They later moved towards a more casual approach, while still retaining the sophistication that Liam's followers love and featured printed blue trousers that we can see flying off the racks once the collection hits stores!

Ruby is definitely keeping in touch with its streetwear origins for AW13 collection Mr Destiny, with models hitting the runway with long straight hair falling from beneath cute woolen beanies - a must for the New Zealand winter!

Channeling a look that is ultra feminine and confient, but slightly unkempt at the same time, the collection is sure to be a hit! Bold striped knits were the feature of the earlier pieces we saw, followed by a range of garments which featured a 'metallic polkadot' detailing (as one observer described). The collection was topped off by some stunning full length silver dresses perfect for the winter ball season, which the same observer described as 'Star Trek chic' (we thought they were much cooler than Star Trek)

All in all, a fantastic opening show to start New Zealand Fashion Week 2012!

Due to technical issues we can't get the photos up just yet, we'll have them up really soon!!!
