Paris House, Making themselves at Home.

Sharon Paris, designer/creator at Paris House has done it again. This New Zealand globe-trotter, who describes herself as a minimalist, borderline OCD case, non-bicycle-rider and conflict-avoider withdisproportionately long-limbs has taken her conceptual art and along with the Paris House label has explored a previously uncharted territory finding a new home inside London’s premiere department store, Liberty. Way to go Sharon!

The Paris House collection is now on the ground floor in the “Bazaar Room”. There you can see rare, unusual and precious items showcased harking back to Liberty’s origins when its buyers scoured the world to bring unique curios from all corners of the globe. And now New Zealand is also mixing in this luxurious exotic company. Paris House, the new kid on the block, is sitting alongside new friends such as Marc by Marc Jacobs, Dries Van Noten and Vivienne Westwood.

“It’s exciting” says Sharon, “you dream about these things and then one day you’re actually there. It’s a bit surreal but it feels like a big achievement. New Zealand has grown up and to come play with the big kids”.

Ever the adventurer, Sharon had to go to great lengths for this season’s line. Exploration for the new range occurred in a small town in the North of Portugal (alright for some!). There, the designer found herself at the mercy of an excitably erratic GPS which was insistent on taking the “tourist route” through basketball courts, dead end roads and attempting to outsmart the auto-Estrada.

All this hard searching paid off: “Don’t thank me, buy me something”, the artwork found on this season’s photopocket wallet sums up perfectly this year’s new range entitled “Untitled”. Stylish fans can now sling a Paris House bag over their shoulders as they head out on life’s escapades. One of the new bags comes with a fish purse attached. Made from super soft Italian leathers, it’s printed with the fitting artwork “fishing for compliments” (Buyer beware: while sporting Paris House products may lead to a more adventurous self, we strongly recommend you do not take this one fishing).

Paris House products are now available wherever you might find yourself be it London, Paris, Los Angeles, Edinburgh, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Tokyo, Lisbon, Jakarta, Berlin, Finland, Valencia, Rotterdam or Brussels, or even more exotic locales in New Zealand from Hokianga to Invercargill. All talk and no action will get us nowhere and Paris House is most certainly looking to get somewhere. Next stop New York.

Check out the complete Paris House range on their website, find out a bit more about Sharon (and get their updates) and then get yourself along to one of the Kiwi stockists. Peace M+M
