FREAKware by mr FREAK

On the lookout for something a little bit different, a little bit alternative and always one of a kind? We think we've found what you're looking for! Here we have it... Mr Freak.

The crew at Mr Freak are firmly against following the trend. Producing high quality unique hand-made threads that will see you stand out from the crowd! They're part of Wellington's fashion underground and we'll be bringing you more on this fantastic group in coming posts.

Mr Freak garments are constructed around  suits, taking the formal threads from the office and turning them into something outstanding. This isn't recycling, it's upcycling and we love it!

Check out the threads available on their Facebook page to find out more...

Frustrated with the system... Ethcs

We'll let Shane from Ethcs introduce his threads...

Ethcs was born outta frustration with the system,
a night of alcohol abuse and a desire to see my creations
make their way from paper to the real world.

T-shirts & hoods are the perfect medium ya know!

The current collection is inspired by what's going on around me;
a drunken conversation with a Kenyan immigrant (African Hope),
the varied cultural backgrounds of the people I work with (Face the World),
the commercialisation of Kiwi culture (Shutterbug) and so on.

MisteR's Water World

We like MisteR, we like them a lot. They're a brand here to put some fun and style back into menswear. We love how much they rip we fellas away from mass production and give us a unique, quality, New Zealand-made product.

MisteR creates exclusive, limited edition jeans, jackets and shirts; each garment is individually numbered and made with high quality materials and 100% natural fibres. The overall MisteR style is a balanced mix of East meets West and Diesel Denim meets Tailored Costume, using touches of colour and collaged detail mixed with denim and tailored shapes.

MisteR is a collaboration of two designers, Mickey Lin and Ra Thomson and was dreamed up on their graduation from design school. Mickey and Ra are originally from Christchurch and met while studying fashion at the Christchurch Polytechnic. After graduating they worked for many well known designers; Mickey has worked for Sakaguchi, Starfish, Robyn Mathieson and New York designer Gam-In-Gale; Ra worked as designer for Jockey Kids Underwear for two years before moving to Wellington to work for House of Hank.

Over the last few years MisteR has been creating made-to-measure garments for a number of clients, friends and family. With this experience under its belt, MisteR is now establishing itself as a major player in the NZ fashion scene. Check the latest Water World collection...

MisteR Menswear's latest collection can be found on their Facebook page and we're sure it'll make it to the website soon enough. Stockists are all over the show, we'll race you there!

Philippa&Alice - finalists going places...

We love it when our Facebook shout outs deliver something amazing. The latest label to pop up is the stunning Philippa&Alice and their debut collection. Designers Philippa Lake and Alice Howard met whilst completing their fashion degrees in Wellington. Having the same dreams of starting their own labels the pair decided to join forces and started up label Philippa&Alice early this year.

With a firm grounding from rigorous study in Massey University's Bachelor of Design, a background in fashion retail and internships at the likes of Lonely Hearts, Philippa and Alice at Philipa&Alice celebrate the era of the fashion blogger and their part as the new champion of a meritocratic design culture (and yes, we like the role we have in this picture).

The label draws upon the tension between the innocence and naivety of youth and the sometimes painful but necessary rites of passage to adulthood to explore the spectrum of the feminine aesthetic and identity. Bringing together the two very different but complementary aesthetics of the two designers to create a unique look consisting of very structured tailored pieces and some softer more feminine elements.

These girls are going to be worth watching, already you can pick up their awesome designs at new Greytown store Password Please... and will soon be available over their website(currently in development) www.philippaandalice.co.nz. For now, check out their Facebook page and give them a quick Like.

Philippa&Alice, along with a number of other friends of the Fashion Guru are finalists in the Westpac Young Fashion Designer Competition. Get yourself along there and share the love.
