Sustainability, environmental impact and the rest

Kia ora fellow fashion fiends. Some serious issues for consideration. You know how committed we are to Kiwi designers (Ok, yeah and a few Aussie ones too), and that we've got a passion for the planet. Big question is, should we profile the big international brands whose impact on the planet jean for jean or shirt for shirt is really doing the damage? And that's before the huge costs of shipping round the world!

Basically, we look at the likes of Levi's where one pair of jeans produces 33.2 kilograms of carbon dioxide, and uses 3,480.5 litres of water and 400.1 megajoules of energy. That’s the equivalent of driving a car 125 km, taking 53 showers and watching a plasma TV screen for 318 hours. Should we feature these brands? And remember those figures don't include the cost of shipping!

So the big question Aussie and Kiwi brands on the Fashion Guru or the big internationals too? Let us know, and while we're at it, how important is Kiwi made to you?

Look forward to hearing from you.
