Goodbye Tessa, best of luck M+M

We spend all our time talking about other people, thought we'd give you a taste of what we get up to. Last weekend, along with some of Wellington's styliest people, we headed over to Martinborough. The purpose - to throw the most epic and amazing birthday and farewell party for talented designer Tessa Bailey-Lont (check out her collection here). Tessa is off to share her talents in Lisbon, Portugal, we're sure the Portugese will love her as much as we do.

We think you'll agree Tessa and her beautiful and talented friends brought a certain Je ne sais quoi to Martinborough. Long may they reign. Best of luck Tessa, all the best for the future.

Glu Clothing - local and truly cosmic

OK, we've had our eye on Glu for a while now and they've brought our some awesome threads of late. We were wondering what to put in our first write up about them - but checking out their website, how are we going to top this...

Glu Clothing Ltd was founded in the depths of The Big Yellow, Wellington. glu clothing is the combination of an alcoholic midget, twin giraffes and a wombat who likes football.

They came together to create a clothing line that focused on the fusion between great art and quality garments. After the first drop of paint made it's way through the screen and onto the soft fibre, glu clothing was born.

Now a full-time thread slinging super machine, glu clothing is run out of Mt Cook, Wellington and caters to the dudes and dudesses of this beautiful planet called earth.

We're not here to take the clothes off ya back, we're here to put em on!

Enough said, their stuff is cool. Get yourself to their online store,  or just mug that cool kid! And sorry it's taken us so long to get them up - sometimes we forget that we have to share!

Sex and the City 2 Party - Wellington

Sustainability, environmental impact and the rest

Kia ora fellow fashion fiends. Some serious issues for consideration. You know how committed we are to Kiwi designers (Ok, yeah and a few Aussie ones too), and that we've got a passion for the planet. Big question is, should we profile the big international brands whose impact on the planet jean for jean or shirt for shirt is really doing the damage? And that's before the huge costs of shipping round the world!

Basically, we look at the likes of Levi's where one pair of jeans produces 33.2 kilograms of carbon dioxide, and uses 3,480.5 litres of water and 400.1 megajoules of energy. That’s the equivalent of driving a car 125 km, taking 53 showers and watching a plasma TV screen for 318 hours. Should we feature these brands? And remember those figures don't include the cost of shipping!

So the big question Aussie and Kiwi brands on the Fashion Guru or the big internationals too? Let us know, and while we're at it, how important is Kiwi made to you?

Look forward to hearing from you.

BE ORIGINAL - The Un-Ugly Ugg Boot

Fresh to you from Christchurch comes BO, original and absolutely must have un-ugly ugg boots. Once you've checked these no other sheep will ever be right for your feet!

Bo Boots are sort of like ugg boots: they’re warm and cosy and fluffy on the inside. They’ll be your best friend on a cold winter’s day. And like ugg boots, they simple, practical and easy to wear. The only difference is they’re not, well, ugly.

BO's design philosophy is to inspire originality. Each boot fit's the creative influence of their New Zealand roots.

We love that they use local materials like sheepskin and leather – be it nostalgically sweet, sophisticatedly urban or somewhere in between BO will deliver something to suit your originality.

Bo boots are iconic New Zealand in both design and construction. They are authentic. They are original. They are cosy, comfy, go-anywhere boots that beg to be worn. And worn. And worn.

You want some, yes? You can buy online or at a select few stockists. Check out the full range online.

Johanna Blakley - Copywriting Fashion

Copyright law's grip on film, music and software barely touches the fashion industry ... and fashion benefits in both innovation and sales, says Johanna Blakley. At TEDxUSC 2010, she talks about what all creative industries can learn from fashion's free culture.
